Run With The Horses: Happy Valley Race Track

Location: The Hong Kong Jockey Club Happy Valley Racecourse, Happy Valley, Hong Kong
Happy Valley race track is open from early morning to late at night, and with the exception of Wednesday evenings during the racing season has a couple of options for track work or just running off some steam at the end of a working day.  It is dead easy to get to.  You can enter from either of the Wong Nai Chung Roads (runs both sides) through the stadium or opposite.  There are changing facilities in the middle, plus showers.  You normally need a padlock for a locker but there are some $10 ones if you can find them.  A few refreshment machines are around and there is space to do strength exercises if you wish.

The outer track is the 'ambulance track (nice). but offers 1400m of hard paved running.  In the middle is a shorter track that is more 'sprung' but this is narrow and (currently) is disrupted by building work.  The track rises towards the north end giving for a nice downhill run into it.  Here you can do sprint work or just run in something that is more than a 400m circuit.  Pity you are not allowed on the grass.

Distance: 1400m+
Type: Track
Traffic: None
Refreshments: Inside and outside the stadium
Getting There: Trams stop on the east side coming from the eastern island end and terminate at the southern tip.  Buses from all over the island stop at our near the stadium.  MTR to Causeway Bay and a short walk.
