Shing Mun Reservoir: The Monkey Run (10km)

Location: Shing Mun Reservoir, Lo Wai, Hong Kong
This was the first reservoir run I did.  It has the benefit of being pretty flat, just a few ups and downs but nothing serious so you can focus on the running and the views...whilst keeping and eye out for the monkeys in the first couple of KMs.

Best Place to start is just where the mini bus drops you off, then head anticlockwise (why is it always so?) across the dam.  Once across the dam take a hard 90 degree left (don't go up the steps) and go onto the Wilson Trail stage 7.  You will now follow the reservoir line (just above it) for the next five kms before completing a hairpin turn and coming back down the other side.

I tend to stick to the paved road all the way (ignoring the Pineapple Nature Trail) which brings you back to the minibus stop.  Drinks are available just before this and also in Wo Yi Hop Village.

Distance: 10km

Type: Loop
Traffic: None
Refreshments: Small store at the beginning / end point
Getting There: Take the MTR to  Tsuen Wan MTR station, exit B3 to Shiu Wo Street  and then catch Minibus 82 to the reservoir ($4.9)
