Ah, Discovery Bay. That Hong Kong other world, home of pilots and the largest conclave of families this side of Disneyland. Discovery Bay, the place where cars are banned. Yes, that is right. No cars, unless you buy one of the new properties up the hill (and have bundles of cash) or can afford the exorbitant price of a golf buggy. Of course, all that makes for a great place to run.
To keep things reasonably simple, you can run on the flat, and that is what this route focuses on. However, if you want a leg burn, it is easy to take a detour and head up Discovery Valley Road. Double back and come back down the way you came, or go 'cross country' and hit a trail.
The run follows the basic route of the Discovery Bay 10km. It starts at the ferry terminal and then heads along Discovery Bay Road, before turning right onto Seabird Lane and then Seabee Lane just after the 1km point. From here you will follow Seabee Lane in a loop, past Discovery Bay College and back to DB Road where you go up to DB Tunnel and then onto Sienna Avenue which will eventually bring you back to DB road. You will double back on yourself to the Ferry Terminal and then go beyond before heading into SeeBee Lane and then Headland Drive before rejoining Seebee Lane (if this all sounds a little complicated, just follow your nose. It is almost impossible to get lost).
From here it is back to DB road and then past the shopping centre, following DB Road right to its end. Here, turn around and head back to the ferry or, perhaps more appropriately, find a bar and pull up a chair for a drink and some food overlooking the water.
